ROBESON Ancestry

Andrew ROBESON Sr Andrew was born before 1634 in Scotland. He died in Nov 1694 and was buried in the "Friends' burying ground" although he was not a Friend. Andrew Robeson Sr. was the first of the Robeson's who owned "Shoomac Park".(2)

Elizabeth SHEPHERD Elizabeth died in Sep 1695 in Philadelphia, PA. (2)

  1. Andrew ROBESON Jr. Andrew was born about 1654 in Scotland. He died on 19 Feb 1719/20 in Douglassville Twp, Province of PA and was buried in St Gabriel's Church located near Douglassville. Andrew married Elizabeth SPENCER in 1686 in Douglassville Twp, Province of PA.

USGenWeb Archive, Montgomery County, PA History: Local: CHAPTER LXXIX : Whitemarsh Township: Bean's 1884 History of Montgomery Co, PA. The following entry relating to Andrew ROBESON Jr., was found in this document:

"....Judge Andrew Robeson, the ancestor of the family, died February 19, 1719-20, aged sixty-six years. Robeson township, which he was considerable land-holder, was called after him...."

Andrew ROBESON (b: 1634) was a merchant and land agent in West Jersey in 1685 and Surveyor General of West Jersey in 1688-9.(1)

In 1690, Andrew Sr moved to Philadelphia County, Province of PA, where he purchased "Shoomac Park" from Joshua TITTERY who had purchased it from Robert TURNER to whom it had been granted by William PENN in 1684. (1)

In 1693, Andrew Sr was a member of Gov, Benjamin FLETCHER's Council of Pennsylvania". for the term expiring 9 Jun 1695. (While serving as Governor of the Province of Pennsylvania, Benjamin Fletcher was also the Governor of New York.) (1)

In his will, dated 24 Dec 1694, Andrew willed the bulk of his estate to his wife Elizabeth and in a codicil he willed 250 acres of land on "Raccoon Creek" in West Jersey to Andrew ROBESON Jr.(3)

It is possible that Elizabeth SHEPPARD's mother was also named Elizabeth (maiden name Unknown) SHEPPARD and that her grandmother was Ann COX.
