There are numerous records on the Ontario and Yates County, NY, USGenWeb sites showing that a Nathan WALTON, Christopher WALTON, John WALTON and Edward WALTON lived in Penn Yan Village and the town of Jerusalem about the same as Nicholas WALTON. These men are probably related, although we have not seen any records to confirm this. (1)

Walton is one of the most important towns of Delaware county. It was the seventh formed, and the last before the erection of the county, in 1797. It was embraced in Franklin prior to that date, and was named from William Walton, who, in 1770, obtained a patent of twenty thousand acres of land extending from the Delaware river to the Susquehanna valley, within which the village and a portion of the town are embraced.

Christopher and Nicholas WALTON's names appear in the 1810 Census in the town of Jerusalem. Nicholas would have been about 20 years old at the time of the census. Christopher may have been his father or a brother. Their names did not appear on the 1800 census for Ontario.
